QR reader from an image
Read the text in an uploaded QR image without sending it to a server. Uses local decoding and displays the result safely.
Checking browser QR support…
A local JavaScript reader handles clean, upright QR images, including quarter-turn rotations. Native BarcodeDetector support, where available, handles more complex photographs. The fallback checks error-correction blocks but cannot repair damaged codes. Images stay on your device. Decoded text is untrusted: inspect it before using any address or payment instruction.
How to use this tool
- Choose a clean, upright image cropped to the code and its blank margin.
- Choose a clear PNG, JPEG or WebP image containing the complete code and its blank margin.
- Select Read QR image and inspect the decoded text. Nothing is automatically opened.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers work?
Modern browsers with image bitmap and canvas support can use the JavaScript reader for clean codes. Where BarcodeDetector supports qr_code, it is tried first for more difficult images. There is no server fallback.
Why was no code found?
Try a clear, larger image with strong contrast and an intact blank border. The JavaScript fallback needs an isolated, axis-aligned code and supports numeric, alphanumeric and byte text. Blur, perspective, unsupported encodings or damage may prevent decoding.
Can I upload a very large image?
Files are limited to 10 MiB and decoded images to 20 megapixels. Crop or resize larger images first. Images are discarded after decoding.
